Tuesday's Minor League Baseball Standout Performers

Chris breaks down the most dominant performers from studs at the highest levels, down to dominant DSL standouts.

Happy Wednesday folks. Another great week of Minor League Baseball action kicked off yesterday and I got a great pitchers’ duel between Nationals’ Jackson Kent and Rangers’ Leandro Lopez. We went to extra innings scoreless, which might be partly due to lineups, but partially due to good pitching.

I wrote up both pitchers, but there was a ton of action to cover from yesterday. From two home runs games, to dominant pitching performances from the upper levels, down to the DSL, I have you covered.

Free Minor League Baseball Recap Previews

Each day, I will pick a hitter and pitcher who stand out and deserve the top spot on the sheet. Those players’ reports will be free for all to read. The rest will be paywalled for Dynasty Dugout Subscribers. The article is around 3000 words, giving you detailed player reports to encapsulate everything you need to know.

Jackson Kent, LHP, Washington Nationals, 22, A+

Drafted last summer in the fourth round out of Arizona, Kent has been good in nearly every start of his pro career this year. Brooklyn seems to have his number, though as he allowed nine runs against them on April 30 and eight runs in 2.1 innings last week.

Kent bounced back in a big way last night as he was highly efficient, tossing six scoreless innings with just one hit and one walk. Striking out six batters, Kent needed just 72 pitches and landed 50 of those for strikes.

Kent’s fastball is not flashy, sitting 92-94 mph, and he had a few 91s sprinkled in once he got to the sixth inning. But it’s the release point and fastball traits that make it good. He lowered his release height from 5’9” last year down closer to 5’6”, and he has actually seen more IVB on the pitch, getting up near 20 inches last night with good arm-side run.

The changeup is Kent’s best secondary, around 83 mph, with heavy fading action, getting near 18 inches at times with last depth. The slider and curve are distinct secondaries, with the slider having a gyro shape working 82-85 mph, and the curveball worked 78-80 mph.

Right now, Kent is more of a pitchability arm with good command. But if the fastball ticks up even one mph, he raises his ceiling. He has a starter frame and there is a lot to like in the profile.

Gabriel Davalillo, C, Los Angeles Angels, 17, DSL

Davalillo was arguably the top catcher in the 2025 international class and is already well-filled out for his 17-year-old frame. While the defense behind the plate lags behind, the bat is impressive, and Davalillo offers plenty of power upside.

It is a violent swing, but it comes with some of the best bat speed in the class. Listening to the ball jump off his bat, the power is different for Davalillo. The profile hinges on how much contact Davalillo makes, and reports have been split on that.

Coming from a baseball family, Davalillo is said to have good instincts and baseball IQ. To my eye, his frame looks a lot like Francisco Alvarez's when he signed. If Davalillo can’t stick behind the plate, he could move to first base, where the power will play.

Davalillo did not make his pro debut until Monday, where he had a hit and two walks. Yesterday, Davalillo blasted two home runs and drove in seven runs. Both shots went to the opposite field, showing the legit power that he has.
