These Minor League Baseball Prospects Went Off! Notable Tuesday Standouts
Chris breaks down his live looks from Tuesday, plus other dominant performances from the Dominican Summer League all the way up to Triple-A.
Last night’s Greenville-Greensboro game ended early for me as a massive storm moved into the area and landed the game in a long delay. The bottom fell out as I ran to the car, leaving me feeling like I got in the shower with my clothes on. The good news is, I got four plate appearances from Konnor Griffin and others before the delay.
On the flip side, I got to watch some other games in MiLB TV last night and there was a ton of good action. A day full of great performances is one to be celebrated. Let’s break down all the top hitters and pitchers that you need to know from across the Minors.
Free Minor League Baseball Recap Previews
Each day, I will pick a hitter and pitcher who stand out and deserve the top spot on the sheet. Those players’ reports will be free for all to read. The rest will be paywalled for Dynasty Dugout Subscribers. The article is around 3000 words, giving you detailed player reports to encapsulate everything you need to know.
Dorian Soto, SS, Boston Red Sox, 17, DSL
Soto was a late bloomer in the 2025 international cycle, but by signing day, he was discussed among the best in the class. It has shown on the field as well as Soto has hits in nine of his ten games to this point and has shown impressive contact skills.
A switch hitter, Soto shows a good feel from both sides of the plate with natural bat speed. There is some aggression in the swing, especially from the right side. Soto uses a big leg kick and has a little bat wrap before exploding through the zone. The swing is much shorter in-game, and Soto controls the barrel well while having a direct path to the ball.
Yesterday, Soto blasted his first two home runs of his career and added a third hit, via a single. The game gave Soto his sixth multi-hit game of the year in the early going. This is a profile I truly believe in, and Soto has the looks and tools of the next Red Sox top prospect.
Carson Whisenhunt, LHP, San Francisco Giants, 24, AAA
The Rafael Devers trade put Whisenhunt even closer to making his debut with the Giants. While the performance on the surface won’t wow you on Tuesday, Whisenhunt generated an impressive 23 whiffs and walked just one batter.
The fastball velocity was down, which is something to watch. After previous sitting at 93 mph and topping at 95, Whisenhunt sat just 91.5 and topped at 92.8 last night. The fastball shape also gives some concern compared to previous starts this year.
The changeup is by far Whisenhunt’s best offering and one of the better changeups among minor league pitchers. It sits around 81 mph with 14 or more inches of fade and late tumbling action. Twelve of his whiffs came on the changeup, which just goes to show why he typically leads with it.
Whisenhunt is utilizing his slider more often, which is very important. After using the changeup and sinker nearly 90 percent of the time last year, Whisenhunt has really upped the slider usage and mixed it efficiently last night.
Carson Whisenhunt was dominant as he k’d 9 and had 14 whiffs across 4.2 IP(65 p)
The notable takeaway was Whisenhunt’s 0 walks & 75% strike rate. His changeup is lethal and he averaged over an inch more of IVB from last year on his fastball.— Chris Clegg (@ChrisCleggMiLB)
