The Dynasty Digest: May 21, 2024
Chris Clegg breaks down some of the top complex league performers from Monday and provides a long term outlook on each.
Mondays are for the complex, meaning all eyes are on the young performers as there is not other Minor League action taking place. Well, eyes in the sense that you have to find any video you can from sources because there are no streams for complex ball, unfortunately.
We have a two-week sample for hitters at this point, and I will talk about some of the top performers on Monday and what their outlooks are like moving forward.
Complex Level Hitters
Ariel Castro, OF, MIN, 18, FCL
Castro was one of the Twins’ prized possessions of the 2023 international signing class, inking a $2.4 million bonus. After some struggles in the Dominican Summer League last year, in which he slashed .206/.323/.375 with four home runs and a 33.3 percent strikeout rate, the Twins brought Castro stateside, where it seems like some offseason work has paid some dividends.
He collected three hits on Monday, including two doubles and four RBI. The bigger thing of note is that Castro did not strike out. He now has four doubles on the year and 13 RBI in 10 games. The slash line sits at .265/.333/.471, but the concerning thing is Castro is still striking out at a 30.7 percent clip.
The 6’2 lefty brings a big power upside. His bat will need to play, as his defense has drawn question marks. Currently, he profiles as a power-over-hit type, but watch closely to see how Castro’s contact skills develop.
