The Dynasty Digest: May 1, 2024
Chris Clegg breaks down everything you need to know from yesterday's MiLB action.
It’s gonna be May. Okay, that joke is overused and overplayed but we made it to May, officially a month into the season. Some people are ready to hit the panic button, but my suggestion is, it is grind time. Some people don’t have the patience and will begin to check out or sell off. If you think about where you are in the standings less than a fifth of the way through the season, imagine what you can do with 130+ more games!
Stay active on the waiver wire, make trades, play to win. Fantasy baseball is a grind. You got this!
Let’s talk about some players that stood out in yesterday’s action.
MiLB Hitters
Brady House, 3B, WSH, 20, AA
House collected three hits, including a home run on Tuesday to close out his May on a high note. After a fairly slow start to the season, he now has hits in each of his last three games and his slash line up to .256/.341/.436 with three home runs.
It is important to note that Harrisburg, Washington’s Double-A park, ranks lowly in the team run and BABIP context. I am not saying that it is affecting House or even Dylan Crews by any means, but it is something to store away in your brain.
What House is doing is making more contact and showing improved plate discipline. His walk rate is up to 11 percent, and despite having a strikeout rate of 25 percent, he is making more contact than last year at a rate north of 71 percent.
Juan Baez, 3B, MIL, 18, A
Baez is a helium name that I would honestly look to get in on sooner than later. The 18-year-old is off to a strong start in Single-A, with more walks than strikeouts and a slash of .318/.389/.435. He had three hits on Tuesday, including two doubles to give him eight extra-base hits on the year.
While Baez has not hit a home run yet, the power is coming. For his age in full-season ball, running a contact rate north of 85 percent is very impressive. Baez is of shorter stature and has a big leg kick and aggressive swing. To this point, it has not affected him, as Baez has shown the ability to make consistent contact despite being hyper-aggressive. As he matures and develops a plate approach, Baez could end up being an MLB-caliber hitter.
