The Dynasty Digest: June 24, 2024
Chris Clegg breaks down all of the top performers from yesterday's aciton.
We are back with a new week! Another fun slate of Minor League action on Sunday to break down. It is hard to believe that the Minor League season is already more than halfway over. But here we are. Data is becoming more reliable and we can really start buying into some breakouts.
Will put some of those in another article for you later today, but for now, let’s talk about Sunday’s standouts!
MiLB Transactions
Oscar Colas, OF, CHW: Optioned to AAA
Cam Fisher, OF, HOU: Sent to FCL from A+
Lucas Braun, RHP, ATL: Promoted to AA
Drue Hackenberg, RHP, ATL: Promoted to AA
Winston Santos, RHP, TEX: Promoted to AA
Kohl Drake, LHP, TEX: Promoted to A+
Alejandro Rosario, RHP, TEX: Promoted to A+
Stanley Consuegra, OF, NYM: Promoted to AA
James Hicks, RHP, HOU: Promoted to AA
MiLB Hitters
Matt Shaw, INF, CHC, 22, AA
It would be easy to look at the numbers and be down on Matt Shaw based on the overall stat line. A .245/.358/.421 slash line does not jump off the page at you, but there is a bigger picture here to the story.
Shaw reached base three times on Sunday, with two of those being big home runs. He is now up to ten on the year with 17 stolen bases. The strikeout rate is a manageable 20 percent, and Shaw is walking in over 14 percent of plate appearances.
The contact rates are still solid as well, nearly 76 percent overall and nearly 85 percent in-zone. The power metrics are solid, and there is nice speed. I still feel like Shaw can be a perennial 20 home run/20 stolen base type with above average tools across the board.
Dillon Dingler, C, DET, 25, AAA
Dingler feels pretty underrated at this point if we are honest with ourselves, a lot due to prospect fatigue, but also because he is a catcher who puts up good, but not elite numbers. A three-hit, two home run performance on Sunday pushed his home run total to ten on the year with a .287/.350/.508 slash line.
Under the hood, things look solid as well, as Dingler’s average exit velocity of 91.3 mph ranks high by Triple-A standards, and his 104.5 mph 90th percentile exit velocity is a tick above MLB average.
The contact skills are also good. Dingler has a 76 percent overall contact rate and an in-zone mark near 86 percent. The chase rate is an above-average 27 percent.
Maybe we need to pay a bit more attention to Dingler, as he could be in Detroit soon.
