MLB Pitchers
Spencer Schwellenbach, RHP, ATL, 24, MLB
Being promoted from High-A to the Majors in a matter of a month is no easy task, but Schwellenbach has handled it well. He turned in six innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts on Tuesday against the Tigers. He allowed just three hits and walked two batters.
He generated 18 whiffs, good for a 37 percent mark. His 34 percent CSW was also impressive to pair with a 69 percent strike rate. Schwellenbach mixed his cutter and four-seam very efficiently, with the cutter having an impressive 44 percent whiff rate. The six-pitch arsenal keeps hitters on their toes, and I think Schwellenbach should be rostered in nearly all formats.
MiLB Pitchers
Patrick Reilly, RHP, PIT, 23, A+
After starting the year extremely hot, Reilly had a rough month of May, but has been quite good in his last three starts. Having allowed just two earned runs over those starts, Reilly turned in his best start of the year, striking out ten batters over six scoreless innings. He allowed just three hits and three walks a piece in an impressive showing.
Reilly generated 18 whiffs while turning in a 38 percent CSW. The fastball worked 92-94 all night, but touched 95 at peak. The fastball gets good ride and when located it well, got some ugly whiffs. The slider worked in the 84-87 mph range and got more called strikes than whiffs, but Reilly located it well. The changeup and curve were less used, but still efficient.
