The Dynasty Digest: April 3, 2024
Chris Clegg breaks down everything you need to know from the previous days' games on both the MLB and MiLB side.
Triple-A action was back for a full week series; the rest of the Minor League affiliates are gearing up for action starting Friday. It is a good week for baseball because MiLB is just the best. I have gotten some live looks on the prep and college side this week and will see South Carolina and Texas A&M this weekend before fully diving in live looks in the minors.
The Dynasty Digest helps keep you up to date on everything going on across professional baseball, from the minors to majors to give you an edge in your dynasty leagues.
With a lot happening across all levels last night, let’s break them down.
Standout Players from April 2
Bryce Harper, 1B, PHI
Harper earns the top spot today because he mashed three home runs and drove in six runs on Tuesday. He nearly had another one that he smoked on a line with a 100 mph exit velocity that traveled 355 feet. The three home runs came with exit velocities of 108.3, 107.7, and 103.3 mph.
A lot of analysis is not needed here. Harper is a stud who is going to provide power, some stolen bases, and a high OBP at the first base position. His profile does not strike me as one that will fade anytime soon, even though he is the dreaded dynasty age of 31.
Shane Bieber, RHP, CLE
Another stellar start for Bieber, who threw his second straight six-inning scoreless start to begin 2024. This time, he posted zero walks and nine strikeouts against the Seattle Mariners as he outdueled Luis Castillo.
The fastball velocity was down compared to the spring and his first regular-season start, but he still dazzled as he posted a 30 percent CSW and a 35 percent whiff rate. The velocity fluctuation from the first to the second start will be something to keep an eye on, but the performance was there.
Bieber is back, and maybe he does not contend for CY Young Awards like he has in the past, but I would not be shocked to see him have a very good year. As I predicted on the Toolshed Dynasty bold prediction episode, Bieber will finish the year as a top-10 fantasy arm.
