The Dynasty Digest: April 26, 2024
Chris Clegg breaks down everything you need to know from yesterday's action.
Sorry for the delay on today’s Digest. I spent last night at a game and got home late. Then, I enjoyed a round of golf this morning. I am really bad about taking time for myself. I feel the need to be doing baseball research, writing, or podcasting 24/7 and never take a break. Today was a reminder that I need time for myself away from baseball.
But, let’s get to the player breakdowns.
MiLB Hitters
Jack Brannigan, SS, PIT, 23, A+
Brannigan came out of the gates hot in Greenville on Thursday night. He nearly left the yard in the first inning with a double he banged off the wall. Brannigan must have been pretty upset because he came back to the plate in the third and obliterated a ball over the green monster that almost shattered a window in the apartments behind it.
It seems like Brannigan enjoys playing in Greenville because he had a great series there last year as well. It has not been the most impressive start to the year, but he does have three home runs and two stolen bases in 52 at-bats.
The former third-rounder out of Notre Dame enjoyed a strong season in 2023, hitting 19 home runs and stealing 24 bases while slashing .275/.390/.524. At times, Brannigan’s passivity can hurt him as his lower swing rate causes him to work deeper into counts, allowing him to walk and strike out at higher clips.
Mike Boeve, INF, MIL, 21, AA
Boeve continues to be the best hitter in the minors, with another multi-hit performance, with both hits being triples. While he has not left the yard yet, Boeve has a slash line of .491/.605/.655 in his first 76 plate appearances.
In college, Boeve posted an 87 percent contact rate and made contact on 92 percent of pitches in the zone, while chasing just 17 percent of the time. The exit velocities were questionable in college, but Boeve has mashed five home runs in 28 professional games to begin his career while posting plenty of exit velocities over 100 mph in 2023. Considering he has not hit a home run so far this year, it is hard to project where it will lie. But one thing is certain, Boeve can hit.
