The Dynasty Digest: April 15, 2024
Chris Clegg breaks down all the MLB and MiLB action that you need to know.
I am going to try and new layout today for the Digest and break it up by MLB hitters and pitchers as well as MiLB hitters and pitchers. Hopefully it helps the flow of the article a bit and gives you more insight into MLB players as well.
The digest is all about bringing you what you need to know from yesterday’s action. It is hard to know and write up detailed reports on everything notable, but what I hope to do is give you solid breakdowns on about 20 players from the lowest levels of the minors all the way up to the majors. This can help you stay ahead in dynasty leagues.
Let’s get to the report, the Friday, April 15th Dynasty Digest.
The Dynasty Report
MLB Hitter Standouts
Jose Altuve, 2B, HOU
Altuve left the yard twice on Sunday and added a single on his way to a three hit performance. The home runs had exit velocities of 106.3 and 103.1 mph with an additional batted ball being hard hit.
Despite being 33 years old, Altuve looks like the player we have known for many years and currently has a slash line of .382/.462/.721 with five home runs in 17 games.
Rene Pinto, C, TB
Pinto had just two hits on Sunday, but both were big ones, as they were both home runs. In the fourth inning, Pinto’s home run traveled 433 feet with an exit velocity of 108.1 mph, and his second left the bat at 105 mph. It was the first two home runs of PInto’s season, but he has been hitting the ball hard, having a 93.7 mph average exit velocity. He will just need to find more consistent launch angles, and there is a chance Pinto will become a viable starting catcher for fantasy purposes.
Jake Fraley, OF, CIN
It has been a relatively slow start to the season for Fraley, who entered Sunday with zero home runs and one stolen base. But after getting on base four times and swiping three bags, things are looking up, at least if you actually started him and got the three stolen bases on your team. The underlying data does not look great, and his average exit velocity is among the league’s worst.
Jack Suwinski, OF, PIT
Suwinski is one of the better dynasty buys at the moment after a slow start to 2024. A two-hit day on Sunday snapped a three-game hitless streak, and it came via a big home run with four RBI. The home run left the bat at 106.5 mph, but Suwinski also batted balls with exit velocities of 107.4 and 98.5 mph.
The contact rates have improved drastically, especially against left-handed pitching. Overall, Suwinski has an 87.5 percent in-zone contact rate, which is up ten percentage points from 2023. I am buying the deep and believe better days are ahead.
