The Prospect Report

🚀 Standout of The Day

Leonel Sequera, RHP, St. Louis Cardinals (A+)

Stats: 4 IP/3 H/1 ER/0 BB/8 K

Why The Performance Matters:

If you are asking yourself who this is, then that is okay. Sequera signed with the Cardinals in 2022 out of Venezuela and proceeded to be impressive in the DSL that summer. After two stints at the complex, Sequera made it to Single-A Palm Beach in 2024 and pitched the whole season there in 2025, tossing 108 respectable innings.

The stuff and velocity have taken a step forward, and Sequera has been great in four of his six starts this year. Last night was arguably his best start of the year as he struck out eight batters across four innings with just three hits and zero walks allowed. Sequera’s only damage allowed was a home run to Josh Adamczewski; otherwise, Sequera was nearly flawless against an impressive Wisconsin lineup.

Sequera sat 93-94 mph last year on his fastball, topping around 96. This year, he has ticked up and actually saw his velocity increase all night as he was sitting at 96 mph in the fourth inning of the start.

Throwing from a 5’5” release height, Sequera creates a good ride on his fastball, having 15.5 inches of IVB and a -4.6 VAA. He also mixes in a sinker with 13-15 inches of running life and is a distinct pitch from the four-seam.

The slider is Sequera’s primary secondary, sitting 83-85 mph with a strong gyro-shape. The swinging strike rate on that pitch is an impressive 20 percent. Sequera also has a solid low-80s curveball and upper-80s changeup with good fade.

Sequera gets up 6’8” of extension on his pitches and allows the fastball to play up beyond the velocity. At 20 years old, Sequera has a strong arsenal and good command. His strike rate of 66 percent is impressive and Sequera has walked just 6.4 percent of batters faced while striking out 27 percent.

Fantasy Spin:

Sequera seems to be emerging as a pritching prospect, and he has not gotten much buzz to my knowledge. The command is arguably plus, and with the improvements on the fastball, Sequera is now not a secondary-only type. The slider is plus and the changeup has steadily improved. Buy stock in Sequera in leagues that roster 400-500 prospects. -CC
