The Prospect Report
🚀 Standout of The Day
Luis Hernandez, MI, San Francisco Giants (CPX)
Stats: 5/5 3 2B, HR, 9 RBI
Why The Performance Matters:
The Giants' complex-level team dropped 29 runs on the Dodgers yesterday in what looked like a football score when all was said and done. The crazy thing is, they had those 29 runs through five innings and Hernandez was a huge part of that.
Collecting five hits, which included three doubles and a home run, Hernandez drove in an impressive nine runs. No hitter has started out the complex hotter than Hernandez has four home runs and a .406/.474/.906 slash through his first 38 plate appearances.
Younger than most high school juniors, the Giants were confidant enough to have Hernandez skip the DSL and head straight to the complex, and honestly, that might not be a big enough challenge for him.
Hernandez has the potential to develop a plus hit tool and is presently an above-average runner. While Hernandez does not have the biggest frame, there is always a chance he could continue to grow. Given the bat speed and beautiful swing, Hernandez projects as someone who could develop into a 22-25 home run bat.
The floor at the plate and the glove are what make Hernandez attractive. He projects as a future 20-20 type player with room for more growth and a strong feel to hit and get on base. He has the look of a future top prospect in the game. -CC
Jayden Dubanewicz, RHP, Milwaukee Brewers (A)
Stats: 3 IP/2 H/0 ER/0 BB/5 K
Why The Performance Matters:
Sure, Dubanewicz did not have your typical start worthy of earning the standout of the day on the sheet, but he looks to have the potential to have a huge riser. Throwing three innings in his 2026 Single-A debut, Dubanewicz struck out five batters across three strong innings in which he allowed just two hits. Landing 63 percent of his pitches for strikes, Dubanewicz also got plenty of chase out of the zone, having a 51 percent chase rate.
Listed at 6’3, Dubanewicz has plenty of projection on his frame and loose and whippy arm action, but has solid command. He impressed me in my looks and showed a solid arsenal of pitches that could lead to him being a solid starting pitcher with the command he brings to the table.
After sitting 92-94 on his fastball last year, Dubanewicz is sitting 95 and touching 98 mph. It comes from a funky slot, which gives hitters tough looks. Dubanewicz creates good sinking action and plenty of arm-side run. He is using his four-seam much more, creating 18 inches of IVB from a 5’10” release height, which is a couple of inches higher than his sinker that gets more run.
Mixing in a slider, curveball, and changeup, Dubanewicz has a deep arsenal of pitches. The slider is the primary secondary that sits 83-85 mph with around six inches of sweeping action. The changeup sits at 86-88 mph, but has around 12 inches of fade and late depth.
Dubanewicz looks like a different arm than last year and most people have not caught on. I would invest now in leagues that roster 250-300 prospects. -CC
