The Prospect Report

🚀 Standout of The Day

Devin Fitz-Gerald, MI, Washington Nationals (A+)

Stats: 3/4 2 HR

Why The Performance Matters:

Fitz-Gerald was traded to the Nationals as part of the MacKenzie Gore trade and looks ready to ascend to top prospect status. He just hits and hits some more and the power is blossoming. After three hits and two home runs on Tuesday, Fitz-Gerald is now up to eight home runs on the season with ten stolen bases. The slash sits at .325/.451/.650 with more walks than strikeouts.

Fitz-Gerald was the Rangers’ fifth-round pick in 2024 out of the acclaimed Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. The switch-hitter was one of the top prep bats in Florida, and the Rangers gave him a $900k bonus to keep him away from his commitment at NC State.

The hit tool is not just about his contact skills, as Fitz-Gerald shows strong angles as well. Fitz-Gerald has an impressive 82 percent contact rate and a low chase rate as well.

The speed is currently above average, as Fitz-Gerald has shown good clock speed. The power was also strong as Fitz-Gerald ran a 90th percentile exit velocity north of 104 mph. The well-rounded skillset bodes well for him moving up levels. Fitz-Gerald will spend nearly all of the 2026 season as a 20-year-old and could find himself in Double-A during the second half of the season. -CC

Jackson Kent, LHP, Washington Nationals (AA)

Stats: 7 IP/3 H/1 ER/2 BB/8 K

Why The Performance Matters:

After pitching mostly as a reliever at Arizona in 2023, Kent took a big step forward in 2024, tossing 86 innings with a 4.08 ERA. Kent struck out 89 batters and walked 27, pitching his way to a fourth-round selection by the Nationals. Kent put together a good 2025 season, posting a 4.61 ERA across 123 innings between High-A and Double-A while striking out 26 percent of hitters.

Kent turned in one of his best starts of the season on Tuesday, striking out eight batters across seven strong innings. He allowed just three hits and two walks, and lowered his ERA to 2.81 on the year and upped his strikeout rate to 29 percent.

Kent’s fastball is not flashy, sitting 92-94 mph, but it’s the release point and fastball traits that make it good. Reports are he is around 95 mph now. I have not confirmed that, but am working to do so. He lowered his release height from 5’9” in 2024 down closer to 5’6”, and he has actually seen more IVB on the pitch, getting up near 20 inches at times with good arm-side run.

The changeup is Kent’s best secondary, around 83 mph, with heavy fading action, getting near 18 inches at times with late depth. The slider and curve are distinct secondaries, with the slider having a gyro shape working 82-85 mph, and the curveball worked 78-80 mph.

Kent looks like an MLB starter, especially if the velocity is up. I am highly intrigued and have been since I saw him last season. Kent is a solid dynasty buy. -CC
