The Prospect Report
🚀 Standout of The Day
Jaxon Wiggins, RHP, Chicago Cubs
Stats: 4 IP, 2 H, ER, 2 BB, 6 K
Notable Pitch Data: 18 Inches of IVB on Fastball
Why The Performance Matters:
Jaxon Wiggins could be up with the Cubs in short order, and outings like this are a big reason why. 12 whiffs on 64 pitches is not a bad day at the office. Everything was working — the fastball was nasty, and he was changing eye levels with the changeup and curveball. Everything tunnels well off the heater.
Wiggins mixed and matched his arsenal depending on the batter, and against a left-handed heavy Columbus Clippers lineup he was leaning on the cutter and changeup effectively. 57 of his 64 pitches came against opposite-handed batters.
Fantasy Spin:
Jaxon Wiggins could be up at any point the Cubs need a breather for Taillon or Imanaga, or if an injury hits the rotation. And if the pitching staff miraculously stays healthy, he could be deployed as a weapon out of the bullpen late in the season.
They will put a cap on his innings, he hasn't surpassed 80 innings in a season as a professional, so the likelihood of him seeing time as a reliever at some point this season is pretty high. The whiff stuff is there, and his command and control are solid enough that he could be a real asset in points leagues as a multi-inning option.
