The Prospect Report

🚀 Standout of The Day

Brady Smith, RHP, Los Angeles Dodgers

Stats: 6 IP/1 H/0 ER/0 BB/11 K

Why The Performance Matters:

A career day for Smith, who was nearly perfect across his six innings of work. He struck out an impressive 11 batters on 18 whiffs. Smith ran an insane 55 percent whiff and CSW on the day and landed 77 percent of his pitches for strikes.

A former third-round pick by the Dodgers in 2023, Smith did not debut until 2025 due to Tommy John Surgery. He seems to really be coming into his own this year, but his start on Thursday was his career best by a long shot. It was also his longest start of the year by far, but across 48 innings this year, Smith has a 3.75 ERA with a 40 percent strikeout rate to a 9.8 percent walk rate.

Smith has seen his fastball tick up to the mid-90s after working between 90 and 93 mph. It has strong traits on the offering and is an effective bat misser. The mid-80s changeup also plays well off of it with late depth and arm-side movement.

The curveball has the makings of a plus offering as well, with strong two-plane movement. There is also a slider and a new cutter in the profile. Smith has a starter repertoire.

If we’re looking at pure stuff, Smith can rival anyone in the Dodgers system, even Christian Zazueta. The control gains seem notable and going six innings last night is huge. Major up arrow here. -CC

Dylan Dreiling, OF, Texas Rangers

Dreiling is a player who is putting it together this year that we have not talked enough about. Last season, the underlying data popped, but the surface stats were just okay. Dreiling reached 483 plate appearances despite dealing with injury, and he slashed .226/.319/.381 with 12 home runs, 37 extra base hits, and 15 stolen bases.

After two homers last night, Dreiling is up to ten on the year to pair with eight stolen bases. The slash sits at .289/.375/.453 with a 21 percent strikeout rate to a 13 percent walk rate.

The biggest problem in the profile is passivity. His zone-minus-chase swing rate is one of the lowest in all of baseball. But the contact rates are good, having a 78 percent contact rate and an 85 percent zone-contact.

The power is solid, and Dreiling has a 90th percentile exit velocity of 104 mph. He has reached 112 mph before, showing there is high-end potential. The speed is above-average to plus as well with good defense.

Dreiling looks to be on the verge of a Triple-A promotion and has the makings of an everyday MLB outfielder who can hit 18 home runs and steal 20 bases. -CC
