The Prospect Report

🚀 Standout of The Day

Brendan Tunink, OF, Los Angeles Dodgers (A)

Stats: 2/4 2 HR

Notable Data: 50% Whiff Rate

Why The Performance Matters:

Tunink was the Dodgers’ eighth-round pick in 2024, but don’t let the pick fool you; Tunink can play. Receiving a bonus that is over double the slot value, Tunink has shown a well-rounded profile with power and speed.

Putting up a solid season at the complex, Tunink hit five home runs and stole nine bases across 168 plate appearances, but he struck out over 30 percent of the time. The slash was encouraging at .300/.417/.550, but the whiff rates counteract some of the batted ball data that made him attractive.

For his age, the 103 mph 90th percentile exit velocity was respectable, but it was the strong launch angles that helped create high barrel rates and turned plenty of his batted balls into extra base hits.

Fantasy Spin:

Tunink blasted two home runs in Single-A debut on Thursday in his first home game in Toronto’s new stadium. The homers are great, and there’s no denying the combo of power and speed that Tunink brings to the table, but the whiffs are a major issue. In fact, last night, Tunink whiffed on 50 percent of his swings.

The surface numbers are bound to look good at the lower levels, but Tunink still needs to clean up the contact a lot in order to ascend prospect rankings. -CC
