The Prospect Report

🚀 Standout of The Day

Mikey Romero, 2B, Boston Red Sox

Stats: 3/5 2B

Notable Data: 4 BBE North 104.5 mph. 2 at 113.6 mph and 113.8 mph

Why The Performance Matters:

The 2025 season was Romero’s first in which he spent the majority of the year healthy since being drafted. He did miss a short amount in late May and June, but across a career-high 489 plate appearances, Romero put up a career high in several categories. Hitting 17 home runs, Romero added 33 doubles and four triples. Romero slashed a modest .245/.300/.452.

At the plate, Romero was highly aggressive, swinging at nearly 50 percent of the pitches he saw in 2025. The contact skills took a step back as Romero made contact on less than 70 percent of swings, and he has a chase rate north of 31 percent. While the power improved, Romero really needed to show a better combo of hit and approach.

On Wednesday, Romero showed an impressive combo of all his skills and showed highly impressive power. He chased just 25 percent of pitches out of the zone, and he did not swing and miss. A 3/5 performance with a double was solid, but it was really the underlying data that mattered.

Romero had four batted balls register in the game, and all of them were hit 104.7 mph or harder. That matters, but also Romero smoked two lineouts at 113.8 and 113.6 mph. Considering Romero topped out at 111 mph last year, seeing him have two batted balls north of 113 is huge.

Fantasy Spin:

The Red Sox are deep for the most part, but Romero has versatility, which helps his profile. He has split time between second base, third base, and shortstop for the last few seasons. While it seemed like Kristian Campbell was poised to be the second baseman of the future in Boston, that has not panned out to this point, and the team traded for Caleb Durbin this offseason.

While Romero seems blocked, it's not crazy to think he could work his way into Boston’s lineup at some point this season, especially if an injury occurs. Romero has legitimately improved his bat, and if the approach continues to show as improved, he could turn into a legitimate prospect with his power. -CC
