Standout Minor League Baseball Performances: Wednesday's Stud Prospects
Chris breaks down the top performacnes from Wednesday's Minor League action, including Roderick Arias's two homer game, to Christian Oppor's breakout start.
Yesterday brought us some great performances across the minors. After a lackluster Tuesday, it was fun to hit up MiLB TV and watch some impressive things that transpired yesterday. From studly pitching performances to big-time power performances, Wednesday delivered.
While I have not been to the park this week, I will be back for the weekend and have some good matchups I will be seeing. But for now, video will suffice. Let’s break down the performances and data that stood out from Wednesday’s Minor League studs.
Free Minor League Baseball Recap Previews
Each day, I will pick a hitter and pitcher who stand out and deserve the top spot on the sheet. Those players’ reports will be free for all to read. The rest will be paywalled for Dynasty Dugout Subscribers. The article is around 3000 words, giving you detailed player reports to encapsulate everything you need to know.
Roderick Arias, MI, New York Yankees, 20, A
Any prospect stock that Arias has left has been killed this year, which is crazy to say considering he is still 20 years old. It has been that bad, and even after a huge day on Wednesday, Arias is still slashing a mild .192/.316/.303 with a strikeout rate north of 28 percent.
Arias is actually picking it up a bit. He collected three hits, blasted two home runs, and drove in five yesterday. He now has eight hits in his last five games, and over the last 18 games, Arias is slashing .271/.346/.429 with just a 24 percent strikeout rate.
Under the hood, Arias has respectable data. His 90th percentile exit velocity of 103 mph is close to MLB average and is well above-average for his age. The hard-hit rate is a modest 33.5 percent and the barrel rate sits at just seven percent.
The approach is relatively good as Arias is hyper-aggressive in the zone, having a 80 percent swing rate. The chase rate is just 27.7 percent, which leads to one of the higher zone-minus-chase rates in the minors.
The contact skills are where things fall apart. Arias has a 65 percent contact rate and an in-zone contact rate of 76 percent. I am begging someone to tell Arias to stop switch-hitting. As a right-handed hitter, Arias is slashing .143/.250/.167 versus .205/.332/.337 from the left-side.
Arias is teetering on being a non-prospect. But when you watch him play in person, you can see the athleticism and potential.
Christian Oppor, LHP, Chicago White Sox, 20, A+
Drafted in the fifth round of the 2023 draft, the White Sox gave Oppor a sizeable bonus of $550k, and while he had thrown just 45 pro innings before the start of the 2025 season. Things clicked this offseason, and Oppor has really taken off this year. After dominating in Single-A, Oppor jumped to High-A, and while the results have not been as good, Oppor has still been solid.
Last night, Oppor turned in the best start of his career, striking out ten batters across five innings of a two-run ball. Oppor did not allow a walk and generated an impressive 18 whiffs and had a 51 percent CSW.
Oppor’s fastball sits in the mid-90s consistently, touching 98 mph. It has a good shape to it with ride and run, and is an effective bat-missing pitch from the left side. Throwing from a 5’7” release height, Oppor creates 14-15 inches of IVB and 13 inches of horizontal movement. The vertical approach angle sits around -4.5, which is very good when paired with the velocity.
The changeup development has been huge for Oppor as it gets late tumble and fade, playing well off his fastball from a tough arm slot. It generates 14-15 inches of fade, and tunnels with the fastball well.
The slider gets 13-15 inches of glove-side sweep, and then he added an upper-80s cutter this offseason. Oppor is a premium athlete and mover on the mound who has really cleaned up his delivery. He has not gotten the love he deserves, but looks like a very strong lefty for a 20-year-old.
