St. Louis Cardinals Top Prospects for 2026

1. Rainiel Rodriguez, C, 19, 5’10”/197, AA (Prev Rank: 2)

2026 Update

Rodriguez has spent the majority of the year in Double-A and has handled business well. He has 13 home runs across 371 plate appearances with a .286/.385/.476 slash. The chase rate of 32 percent is higher than you would like to see as is the 76 percent in-zone contact rate, but the power is off the charts here.

Rodriguez took off in the DSL in 2024 and fully broke out in his stateside debut in 2025. Spending the entire season as an 18-year-old, Rodriguez reached High-A by season's end and wound up hitting 20 home runs in 368 plate appearances with a .276/.399/.555 slash line. He walked at a 14.7 percent clip and struck out 17.7 percent of the time.

If you are looking for the next big power-hitting catcher, Rodriguez might just be him. The 20 home runs stand out in a huge way, but the underlying data was strong as well, as Rodriguez posted a 90th percentile exit velocity already in the plus range for MLB standards, and he was just 18 years old. The 90th percentile was around 105 mph with strong barrel rates, thanks to ideal launch angles.

The contact rates are also strong with Rodriguez, considering how the power upside he brings. Running a contact rate north of 75 percent with an in-zone mark north of 80 percent will play. The approach is also sound, as Rodriguez rarely chased pitches out of the zone. This led to the high walk rate even as he moved up levels.

While the frame is filled out, Rodriguez has all the power in the world and has a pretty respectable hit tool. Coming into his age 19 season, Rodriguez looks primed to be the top catching prospect in baseball.

FFG: Power Hitting C
