Spring Training Prospect Watch
🚀 Standout of The Day
Chase Davis, OF, St. Louis Cardinals
Line: 2/3 2 HR, 3 RBI
Notable Data: 108.5 mph HR and 102.4 mph HR
Spring Line: 22 PA .273/.273/.591 2 HR, 41% K
Why The Performance Matters:
Davis was once a hyped first round picking coming out of Arizona in 2023. In fact, I thought Davis was going to turn into one of the better players in that FYPD class as he put up some absurd data in college and seemed primed to be a big performer out of the gate in pro ball.
That has not happened to this point, and Davis has seen his prospect status fade. In 2025, Davis struck out at a 30 percent clip and slashed .242/.358/.353 with ten home runs in 494 plate appearances. When you run a higher OBP than slugging percentage as a supposed power bat, there are issues.
Davis blasted two home runs on Monday, one off Trey Gibson and the other off Nestor German. Davis looked the part, putting up 108.5 and 102.4 mph exit velocities on the homers. Those were Davis’s first two home runs of the spring and a large reason the slugging percentage took a jump.
Still, Davis is striking out at a 41 percent clip this spring and has yet to take a walk. We are talking about small samples, but Davis is running a 39 percent chase rate and a 67 percent zone-contact. The exit velocity data looks good, but Davis still has a long road ahead of him to rebuild prospect status.
Fantasy Spin:
Sure, it was very encouraging to see Davis have a big day, blasting two home runs. But, without the contact data improvement, Davis still has a lot of work ahead. He is not a buy for in dynasty leagues despite the big performance on Monday. -CC
