Seattle Mariners Top Prospects for 2026

1. Colt Emerson, SS, 20, 6’0”/195, AAA

Emerson spent the majority of the year in High-A, but eventually moved to a pitcher-friendly Arkansas and finished out the year in Triple-A Tacoma. As the season went on, Emerson improved. Over his final 53 games, Emerson slashed .313/.405/.512 with eight home runs, 25 extra base hits, and nine stolen bases.

Across 600 plate appearances at all levels, Emerson hit 16 home runs and stole 14 bases while slashing .285/.383/.458. The underlying data improved all year as well. He finished the season with a 129 wRC+ despite spending the majority of the season as a 19-year-old.

The underlying data also improved as Emerson saw his ground ball rate drop from 50 percent during the first four months of the season to 40 percent in the final two-month stretch. This all stemmed from a slight swing where Emerson transitioned to a toe-tap, and the barrel stayed in the zone much longer, which helped him get the launch angles up. Emerson hit the cover off the ball, having a max exit velocity of 115 mph, and his 90th percentile exit velocity was north of 105 mph.

The contact skills have stayed in a respectable range, as Emerson made contact on over 82 percent of swings for the season, and his feel for contact on swings in the zone was impressive. The approach has been sound throughout his entire pro career and helps him run high OBPs.

Emerson is quite advanced for his age and ready to hit the ground running in the majors. He is expected to compete for a spot, so it should be interesting to follow how his spring goes.
