San Diego Padres Top Prospects for 2026
1. Kruz Schoolcraft, LHP, 18, 6’8”/229, A
“A massive left-handed pitcher fits the mold perfectly of the type of pitcher that the Padres love. No surprise, San Diego selected Schoolcraft, a 6’8” lefty, in the first round of the draft. Originally part of the 2026 draft, Schoolcraft is a young 18-year-old with a ton of projection and presently good stuff. The athlete is good as well as Schoolcraft showed big raw power at the plate, drawing comparisons to Giants Bryce Eldridge who was also a tall two-way player in high school.
On the mound, Schoolcraft sits in the low-90s on his fastball, but has touched 97 at different points of his career. The strike-throwing is pretty strong for someone his size, and he controls his body well on the mound.
Schoolcraft uses a changeup quite often, which has strong traits and is quite advanced for a high school arm. It has good traits with heavy fading action and depth and Schoolcraft sells it well with good arm speed.
The slider sits in the low-80s and has a good movement profile to miss bats. If the command is there, Schoolcraft can develop into a starting pitcher. The frame typically leads to a bullpen arm, but we have seen tall arms make it work as starters.” - Chris Clegg
