Philadelphia Phillies Top Prospects for 2026

1. Gage Wood, RHP, 22, 6’0”/205, AA (Prev Rank: 6)

2026 Update

Wood skipped High-A and has continued to pitch well in Double-A. Across 63.2 innings, Wood has a 3.68 ERA and a 36.2 percent strikeout rate to an 8.5 percent walk rate. The strike rate jumping north of 66 percent in Double-A is a huge step in the right direction for Wood sticking as a starter.

Wood was one of the late risers in the college pitching crop after his dominance late in the season and in the College World Series. Throwing the first no-hitter in the College World Series will definetly help you out, and not only did he do that, Wood also struck out 19 batters. Wood ended the season with just 37.2 innings pitched, posting a 3.82 ERA, but the stuff is off the charts.

The fastball has outlier traits, sitting 96 mph with 16-19 inches of IVB from a 5’5” release height. This creates an incredibly flat plane, giving the pitch a -4 VAA, a near elite number. The pitch gets good arm-side run and is nearly impossible for hitters to pick up, and Wood had one of the highest four-seam whiff rates of any pitcher in college baseball.

Wood’s curveball is a devastating offering, dialing it back to the low-to-mid 80s. It has strong two-plane movement with negative 16-17 inches of IVB and up to ten inches of glove-side movement. 

Using his fastball and curveball predominantly, Wood also has a changeup that misses plenty of bats, sitting in the upper-80s. It generated 10-13 inches of arm-side fade regularly. The slider has more of a gyro shape, sitting in a similar velocity band as the changeup.
