New York Mets Top Prospects for 2026

1. Jonah Tong, RHP, 23, 6’1”/180, MLB (Prev Rank: 3)

2026 Update

Tong moves to the top of the system by default thanks to graduations and no one else vaulting him their way to the top. Tong has struggled in Triple-A, posting a 5.83 ERA with a 26 percent strikeout rate and a 13 percent walk rate. The stuff is there, but the command inconsistencies are concerning.

Tong worked his way up the minors in 2025 and wound up making his MLB debut. Sure, the MLB stats were not great, but im not overly concerned. Across 113.2 Minor League innings, Tong posted a 1.43 ERA with a 40.5 percent strikeout rate to a 10.6 percent walk rate.

Tong added another tick on his fastball and sits 94-96 mph with 19 inches of IVB from his over-the-top release. He added a new changeup in 2025, which has been deadly, missing bats at a clip of around 45 percent.

Tong utilizes a mid-to-upper 80s cutter with above-average horizontal movement for a cutter. The curveball is a hammer, with a shape near 12-6 and an over negative 18 inches of IVB. For those who are unsure, that is an absurd 67 inches of vertical drop. The pitch sits in the mid-70s with high spin rates.

The changeup rounds out the arsenal, sitting around 85 mph with good carry and horizontal movement. The new grip has made all the difference as the pitch devastates hitters and misses bats as well as any changeup in the minors.

Tong has all the makings of a mid-rotation arm and could be more if he sees the walk rate drop and command improves some.
