The Prospect Report

🚀 Weekend Standouts

Eric Hartman, OF, Atlanta Braves (A+)

Stats: 9/15 3 2B, 3 HR, SB

Why The Performance Matters:

The Braves snagged Hartman with their 20th-round pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, giving him an over-slot to keep him from his college commitment at Michigan. At 6’1”/185, Hartman looks to have some projection left on his frame and already has juice in his bat for someone who just turned 19 years old. Last year, Hartman put up mediocre surface numbers, slashing .240/.341/.358 with five home runs, but 48 stolen bases. But, after returning from injury in early July, Hartman slashed .270/.340/.385 with three home runs and 13 extra-base hits.

After a weekend with three home runs and three doubles, Hartman now has his home run total up to 12 to pair with 13 stolen bases. I don’t think its a fluke either as the exit velocities are way up on Hartman as he has registered multiple batted balls at 112 mph this season and has seen quite a jump overall on the exit velocities in the early going.

Remember when everyone was saying it was not legit because he was striking out at a 28 percent clip as of a few weeks ago? I said Hartman would find a way to blend his newfound power with his hit tool. Now, the strikeout rate is down to 20 percent, and Hartman is making contact at a 78 percent rate.

Baseball America added Hartman to their top 100. He is a legit prospect and could continue to soar even further. For fantasy purposes, Hartman could legit be a plus power bat with 70-grade speed and good instincts on the base paths. How high should you value him for fantasy purposes? With the data on him at 19 years old, I would consider him a top 50 type guy.

Fantasy Spin:

Hartman is a 70-grade runner in addition to what was listed above. He is also 19 years old in High-A. He is 13 of 16 on stolen base attempts after stealing 48 bases last season. The power does not seem to be fluky at all. Hartman feels like a great buy even with the helium. -CC

Jordan Woods, LHP, Kansas City Royals (A)

Stats: 6 IP/0 H/0 ER/0 BB/14 K

Notable Data: 30 Whiffs

Why The Performance Matters:

Woods turned in one of the best pitching performances we have seen all season as he pitched a perfect six innings with 14 strikeouts. Not only that, but Woods generated a season high 30 whiffs, which is absolutely insane.

The 22-year-old lefty is in Single-A Columbia and has a 1.73 ERA across 26 innings and now has 43 strikeouts to just eight walks. Woods was an undrafted free agent in 2022 out of Canada, but the Royals gave him a max signing bonus for a UDFA. Unfortunately, he went down with a UCL injury and had Tommy John Surgery shortly after. He made his pro debut at the complex in 2024 and then spent last year in Columbia(A), posting a 4.12 ERA across 63 innings.

The fastball works 88-91, but plays above the velocity, though, due to great life at the top of the zone. There is a chance Woods could still add velocity as he has some projection and is furthering himself from surgery each day.

Woods’s changeup is a plus pitch, having late tumble and fade, and he sells it well due to his arm speed. It worked 83-84 and gets some ugly swings. A mid-to-upper 70s curveball still needs refinement but has the potential to be an average offering.

Fantasy Spin:

Are we jumping on Woods in fantasy? No not yet. The performance this weekend earns a writeup as one of the best pitching performances this season, but until we see Woods take a leap with velocity, and move beyond Single-A, he’s not worth a roster spot outside of deep leagues. -CC
