The Prospect Report
🚀 Weekend Standouts
Braylon Payne, OF, Milwaukee Brewers (A+)
Stats: 4/9 2 HR
Why The Performance Matters:
Braylon Payne's power explosion has been the biggest surprise of the season, or amongst the biggest surprises. Look at me trying to hook you with the first sentence. Payne smashed a batted ball 115 mph off the bat, and what was remarkable about it is that it looked like almost a mis-hit. We have never doubted the speed and athleticism of Braylon Payne, but it is the swing and how everything plays now that stands out. His setup looks noticeably different, and he is no longer locked into such a linear bat path.
As scouts will tell you, power is the last tool that comes along for hitters, and you should always bet on the athlete. The power is not only flashing but consistently coming into games. Payne's two-homer weekend is just a sample, as he has six homers in only 61 plate appearances. It took him over 300 plate appearances to hit eight homers last season.
Fantasy Spin:
Payne's power coming into play really raises the floor and ceiling of his fantasy production. If the hit tool has also taken a jump, this is the look of a possible top-5-round redraft talent, because he could be an all-category contributor for years to come. Given his elite wheels, emerging power, and improved approach, he can avoid being a Brenton Doyle type who piles up empty counting stats. - RW
Anthony Eyanson, RHP, Boston Red Sox (A+)
Stats: 4.1 IP/1 H/0 ER/0 BB/9 K
Notable Data: 19 Whiffs
Why The Performance Matters:
The conversation around draft time coming out from many people, myself included, was that Anthony Eyanson needs both work on his pitch shapes and a jump in velocity. Then he got drafted by the Red Sox and everything took a massive jump. The question right now is not whether Anthony Eyanson is a top-100 prospect, it is how highly you rank him in your top 100.
His fastball can now touch 100, and he is looking like an absolute steal for the Red Sox. Between us, I had it on good authority that he thought he was going to be drafted by the Rays and was excited to be drafted by a team that knew what they were doing. Things broke differently and he ended up with the Red Sox, and now he is the best pitching prospect from their 2025 draft class.
His breakers are also noticeably better. He has a really good curveball he can use low in the zone to get whiffs, and it gives him a different look alongside his slider and splitter. Eyanson now has a legit four-pitch mix and is demolishing High-A opposition. He needs a promotion to Double-A in the worst way. Because You don’t just string these sort of performances consecutively on accident.
Fantasy Spin:
I would not be shocked if we saw Eyanson pitching out of the Red Sox bullpen in 2026. His stuff is good, and right now minor league hitters are simply not challenging him enough.
He could end the season as a top-25 prospect if these performances hold. I do not often recommend buying high, but Eyanson is someone I would be buying in every league. The question I keep asking myself is whether he is already a top-50 prospect. - RW
