The Prospect Report

🚀 Weekend Standouts

Leanders Matos, 2B/3B, Milwaukee Brewers (DSL)

Stats: 4/7 3 HR, SB

Why The Performance Matters:

The Brewers are doing it again. They continue to nail the international market, and Matos is just another example. After signing for a $300k bonus in January, Matos began the DSL season as a 16-year-old and has performed much better than anticipated.

A three-homer game over the weekend raised Matos total to eight in just 97 plate appearances to pair with six doubles and a triple. Matos has also stolen 11 bases on 12 attempts while slashing .329/.423/.720.

Matos is a buzzy name for sure, and the underlying data is good, but not from the standpoint of his teammate Ricki Moneys. He is making plenty of contact and has shown a respectable approach as well. The launch angles and strong pulled fly ball rate has helped his home run total reach eight so far.

Matos is certainly a name to know. He is moving up boards, but I would be cuatious on going too high too soon. -CC

Henry Lalane, LHP, New York Yankees (A)

Stats: 7 IP/3 H/0 ER/0 BB/11 K

Why The Performance Matters:

Lalane signed back in 2021 and spent two seasons in the Dominican Summer League, which is unusual for a player of his caliber. But Lalane moved to the Florida Complex League and looked like the best arm. After looking dominant in 2023, Lalane was sidelined in 2024, as he pitched just 12 innings. Once again, the 2025 season was a lot one as Lalane threw just 19 innings.

Returning to the mound this year, Lalane got off to a slow start, but has dazzled in his last two starts and looks like an ace. Seven scoreless innings for the second straight start with 11 strikeouts and 23 whiffs. This followed a 12-strikeout performance across seven near-perfect innings last time out. Over his last seven starts and 42 innings, Lalane has a 40 percent strikeout rate to a 6.6 percent walk rate. Pair that with a 1.06 ERA, and it is clearly time for High-A.

Lalane’s fastball gets on you fast as it sits in the mid-90s, but plays up with the extension he gets out of his 6’7” frame. The velocity coming back this year is notable as Lalane has touched 98 mph and gets 16-17 inches of IVB from a 6’0” release height, but also gets good arm-side run.

The changeup plays well off the fastball, sitting in the mid-80s and generating a ton of whiffs with the depth and fade it gets. He is running a 25 percent swinging strike rate on that pitch, which is elite. He rounds out his arsenal with a slider in the upper 70s with plenty of sweep and vertical movement. He throws it away from lefties but can also back-door righties with it.

The arsenal is quite impressive, and Lalane comes off as a strong athlete on the mound despite the tall and lanky frame. The results show there is no reason Lalane needs to be in Single-A anymore. Expect him to be promoted to High-A after the All Star break. -CC
