Minor League Baseball Weekend Recap: Dominant Performances (Week 21)

As the Minor League season winds down, Chris highlights the top performers of the weekend, including Jarlin Susana's insane dominance, Bo Davidson's big week, and some lower level breakouts!

At the beginning of each week, I will provide a comprehensive breakdown of everything that happened across the landscape of Minor League Baseball. It might be a little overkill as I wrote far too much on the players that stood out on the weekend, but I hope it helps you better understand why a player performed as they did.

This report, each Monday, will feature the top 15-20 standouts beyond just the box score. I will dive into non-public pitch data and hitters’ statcast data as well. The goal is to help you find prospects that are breaking out early that you should be getting in on in your dynasty leagues.

Minor League Baseball Weekend Recap(Week 21)

Bo Davidson, OF, San Francisco Giants, 23, AA

Probably the most unlikely breakout candidate in 2024, Chanteyon Ajria Davidson, better known as Bo, did just that last season. An undrafted outfielder out of Caldwell Community College in Hudson, NC, the 6’2”/205 lb outfielder is what you truly call a pop-up prospect.

After starting the 2024 season in Single-A, Davidson struggled and eventually rehabbed at the complex, where he regained his confidence. After returning to Single-A San Jose, Davidson reached base in 34 of 36 games and posted an impressive .410/.532/.795 slash line. Over that torrid span, Davidson hit nine home runs, ten doubles, and five triples. In the process, the strikeout rate dropped to 22 percent.

2025 has been nothing shy of impressive as Davidson has worked his way into Baseball America’s top 100. He blasted two home runs over the weekend to push his total to 15 on the year to pair with 36 extra base hits. Davidson has also swiped 18 bases in the process.

The approach has remained sound even with the jump in level, as Davidson is chasing at a rate in the low 20 percent range. While the contact rate has fallen in Double-A, he is still rocking a 74 percent overall contact rate on the year.

It is a fun profile to dream on for sure, as Davidson has plenty of tools in his belt. The hit tool is still my biggest question mark, but I think there have been legitimate strides this year.

Sal Stewart, 3B, Cincinnati Reds, 21, AAA

Stewart’s power outbreak has been impressive to watch, but it has not been surprising if you have seen him play. Blasting a 113 mph homer that traveled 460 feet on Saturday, Stewart also added a 107 mph homer. He is now up to 19 homers with 33 doubles and he nearly has as many Triple-A homers in 143 plate appearances as he did in 329 Double-A plate appearances.

From a contact standpoint, Stewart has posted a mark of 80 percent or better overall at every stop throughout his minor league career. Sure, it is a tick down from that in Triple-A, but Stewart is consistently improving and doing a ton of damage.

Stewart now looks like the power hitter some thought he could be. With multiple batted balls over 112 mph and an average exit velocity near 93 mph in Triple-A, Stewart is hitting the ball at ideal angles and is looking like one of the better prospects in baseball.

He is ready for the majors and could be in Cincinnati soon.

Jarlin Susana, RHP, Washington Nationals, 21, AA

Usually, when a minor league pitcher makes two starts against the same team in the same week, the team figures out that pitcher the second time around. Susana faced off against a talented Erie team twice last week. In fact, this is one of the best minor league lineups in baseball. In ten innings, Susana allowed four total hits, two earned runs, and struck out 23 hitters. He had 40 whiffs in those two starts.

Susana is nothing short of electric on the mound. Standing at 6’6”, he throws the most effortless 100 mph. While strike throwing can get inconsistent at times, he did see that mark trend up all year in 2024, and from June forward, Susana threw strikes at an impressive 66 percent clip. The strike-throwing has gotten better this year as Susana has gotten further from injury. The last two starts this week, Susana threw strikes at rate near 66 percent.

His fastball is 100 mph and can reach 104 mph. He sometimes features two different variations of the fastball, and batters struggle to hit both just given the velocity. Overall, the command is pretty solid on the fastball, and it is effortless.

The changeup is in the 90-93 mph range, and while it is firm, it easily generates whiffs. The slider will range from 88-92 mph and is thrown nearly as often as his fastball. He looks elite.
