MiLB Midweek Mashers: Wednesday's Notable Prospect Standouts
Get to know the players that stood out and mashed in Wednesday's action of games. Jett Williams and Eriq Swan take the tops spots, but there were some no-names that are catching my eyes.
It is Thursday! Another week flying is by and we have more Minor League Baseball to talk about. I will be back in Spartanburg tonight as Travis Sykora hits the mound for Wilmington and I am pumped to get another look at him after seeing his dominance last year with Fredericksburg.
Before I hit the road, it is time to break down all of the notable action from Wednesday. A ton happened from great pitching performances at the plate, to a 0% rostered player on Fantrax showing impressive stuff on the mound. It is all here; let’s dive in.
Free Minor League Baseball Recap Previews
Each day, I will pick a hitter and pitcher who stand out and deserve the top spot on the sheet. Those players’ reports will be free for all to read. The rest will be paywalled for Dynasty Dugout Subscribers. The article is around 3000 words, giving you detailed player reports to encapsulate everything you need to know.
Jett Williams, SS/OF, New York Mets, 21, AA
A two-home run game for Williams brought his total to six on the year. Williams has four multi-hit games in his last six games and has the slash line of .288/.397/.497. His contact rate is now north of 80 percent, and the approach is really strong.
Williams missed nearly the entire 2024 season due to a right wrist injury. Returning to action late in the year, Williams got 148 plate appearances, posting a .215/.358/.298 slash with zero home runs and nine extra-base hits. Williams was sent to the Arizona Fall League for additional work.
Williams offers an incredibly high and safe floor, showing enough with the bat, plus the versatility in the field to make him at least an average everyday regular in the Majors with All-Star potential. The speed plus OBP and batting average skills will allow him to be a great fantasy asset, even if his power is just slightly below average.
Eriq Swan, RHP, Los Angeles Dodgers, 23, A+
Swan’s 2025 season has been bad on the surface when you look and see a 4.46 ERA in 36.1 innings with 25 walks. When you look a little deeper, Swan has been plagued by a couple of bad starts of five and six earned runs. In his other six starts, Swan has allowed seven total earned runs. Sure, the walks are an issue, but Swan has flashed his potential in the last two starts.
Generating 15 whiffs and striking out eight batters, Swan tossed six innings with just one run allowed. Swan walked two batters, but it was a major step forward from what we have seen in the past few starts.
With a taller, 6’6” frame, Swan has a high release point and creates a good downhill plane. The fastball is in the upper 90s, touching triple-digits at times, with good horizontal movement and below-average IVB from the release height. The gyro-slider has above-average traits, sitting in the mid-80s, and Swan throws a heavy fading changeup near 90 mph.
The stuff overpowers hitters, it will ultimately be about command.
