Kansas City Royals Top Prospects for 2026
1. Carter Jensen, C, 22, 6’0”/210, MLB
Jensen got off to a slow start to the 2025 season, but really picked things up as the calendar turned to May. He struck out 31 percent of the time in April with a .222/.300/.311. After that, Jensen mashed in Double-A and Triple-A through the end of August, slashing .309/.396/.552 with 18 home runs, four triples, and 20 doubles while being successful on ten out of ten stolen base attempts.
The dominant season led to Jensen making his MLB debut, where he hit three home runs and slashed .300/.391/.550 in 69 plate appearances with the Royals. Jensen checked every box you want to see as a hitter and is also pretty solid behind the plate.
The contact rates leveled off somewhat in Triple-A but still sit above 74 percent, and the in-zone rate is above 86 percent. Jensen also shows an impressive approach, showing a low chase rate to pair with respectable in-zone swing rates. The chase rate was around 21 percent in the minors and 24 percent in the majors, both strong marks.
The exit velocities are plus, which has led to strong game power, and Jensen has shown the ability to reach high-end marks, topping out at 115 mph. His 90th percentile exit velocity is over 107 mph for the season. Jensen hits the ball at ideal angles and creates plenty of barrels.
With solid defense, Jensen should be the Royals’ primary catcher in 2026 and contribute plenty with his bat.
