Dynasty Fantasy Baseball Buy Low/Sell High - Week 8

Knowing when to hold and when to fold on players can take you a long way in dynasty leagues. Here is who to buy and sell this week in dynasty leagues.

Knowing who to buy and who to sell is the most important thing you can do in dynasty leagues. Outside of the waiver wire, that is. This article will dive deep into some players' profiles to really judge if what they are doing is legit.

I break down why on each. Find out which prospects are breaking out, you should get in on, and which you should look to cash out on before the stock falls.

Let’s dive into the players to know!

Dynasty Fantasy Baseball Buys and Sells

Sell High: Jordan Walker, OF, St. Louis Cardinals

This may not be popular, but I think you can get a king’s ransom for Walker. Presently, Walker is slashing .301/.371/.584 with 13 home runs and seven stolen bases. Looks pretty good, and if you check out the Razzball Player Rater, Walker is the third-ranked fantasy player.

While Walker has been good all year, a ton of his production came in his first 16 games, where he hit eight home runs and slugged .767. Over the last month, Walker has still been good, but the numbers have come back to earth a little, slashing .283/.359/.487 with five home runs.

So why sell high? First, I think Walker is being valued as a top 30 dynasty asset. You could get a massive return for him. When you factor in the chase rate trending in the wrong direction and contact rates that are among the worst in the league, there seems to be some decline coming, or at least Walker is more likely to be a streaky player.

Over the last month, Walker has been running a 38 percent chase rate and has a sub-70 percent contact rate. These things just lead me to believe there could be some inconsistencies. Check out the chart below. I would cash out if you get a top 30 or even top 50 player.

Prospect Sell High: Xavier Issac, 1B, Tampa Bay Rays

Isaac has a tremendous story, and let me just say, I am rooting hard for the guy. Needing emergency brain surgery last season, there were likely questions about whether Isaac would ever play again.

Returning to the field this year, Isaac has 11 home runs in a pitcher-friendly Southern League, and he even has six stolen bases. Isaac is currently slashing .243/.426/.612. The numbers look really good, so why are we selling Isaac?

Well, you can start with the strikeout rate of 37 percent. He is also running an insane 44 percent home run-per-fly-ball rate. When you dig into the contact numbers, there are some scary things going on. The 53 percent overall contact rate with a 64 percent in-zone mark are among the worst in baseball.

Isaac is also no stranger to poor contact rates. He struck out in 33.3 percent of plate appearances and saw that number jump to 40 percent in Double-A. The overall contact rate of 60 percent is a major concern, and he paired it with a scary in-zone contact rate of 68 percent.

People have pushed Isaac into Top 100 lists. Easy sell!
