Dynasty Baseball $ Values for Trades

Chris Clegg builds out a dynasty auction $ value system to use for trades in your dynasty leagues.

This system has been a long time coming. I had the vision to build a 3-year projection system for dynasty baseball leagues to help managers understand how to value players over a several-year period.

With dynasty trade calculators being popular in the fantasy football community, I always wondered why we did not have any for the dynasty baseball fanatics.

To build the system, I began by using ZIPS projections. ZIPS not only projects for the current season, but they also have projections for two future seasons. So, I took ZIPS projections for 2023, 2024, and 2025.

From there, I modified them in an SGP calculator, changing playing time and innings pitched projections for future seasons, especially with prospects. Not all prospects are in the ZIPS projections files, which I am working on this week. I hope to put some kind of trade value on every prospect in my top 500 rankings.

I built the system about a month ago and hoped to release it then, but did not feel great about it. I have steadily been working on it to try and make it the best it can be for you guys. This week I am hammering it hard to update player values, especially pitchers who are showing legitimate changes. Players that are included in that category are Graham Ashcraft, Pablo Lopez, and Jeffrey Springs.

In version one that you will see today, there are likely prospects that are not included. That will be done throughout this week. I am also working on a better $ scale to show the true value of high-end dynasty assets like Ronald Acuña Jr., Shohei Ohtani, and others. The high-end players will be scaled to max out at $50 rather than what the SGP calculator spits them out to be. This will help you see the true value of players like that in trades in dynasty.

But, the release today will be a great place to start when looking at how my modified projections value players over a three-year period.

The $ values and the trade calculator that will release at the end of the week are for Dynasty Dugout subscribers. If you are not a member and subscribe, you will get access to a spreadsheet where you can see projected $ values for 2023, 2024, and 2025. You can filter by total projected three-year value, an average of the three years, or filter just by an individual season. As it stands, there are 835 players on the sheet.
