Pitching Prospects To Know For Deep Dynasty Leagues

Yoendrys Gomez, RHP, NYY, 23, AA

Gomez may be a familiar name for you as he has been around for quite some time, signing with the Yankees in 2016. It has been a long journey for Gomez to get to where he is today, but Gomez has returned to form in Double-A this year.

Gomez has thrown under 100 innings since 2019 due to the lost covid season plus Tommy John surgery. Upon returning from TJ in 2022, his stuff had ticked back, but Gomez has been sitting 93-95 with nice life on his fastball and an incredible slider shape on a pitch in the mid-80s. Gomez has a changeup in the upper 80s as well, and his command has improved as he has continued to build up his innings.

Gomez has made ten starts this year but has completed just 28.2 innings, posting a 1.26 ERA and 34 strikeouts. The 17 walks are a bit of a red flag, but that has been trending in the right direction in recent starts. Keep an eye on Gomez as one that could take off if this performance can sustain over longer starts.

Trevor Martin, RHP, TB, 22, A

The Rays tend to work magic with their Minor League arms, which appears to be the case with 2022 third-rounder Trevor Martin. The 6’5” righty was a dominant college closer who the Rays are developing as a starter, and the results are very promising.

Martin gets a ton of ride on his fastball that sits in the 92-94 range, and he pairs it with a low-80s slider. The changeup is still a massive work in progress and could be the sticking point for Martin being a starter.

There is a possibility Martin is a bullpen arm, but it is hard to argue with the results this year as he has a 3.30 ERA and a 30.5 percent strikeout rate in 76.1 innings. Martin is throwing strikes at a 64 percent clip and limiting walks. I am watching Trevor Martin’s progression very closely.

Jimmy Joyce, RHP, SEA, 24, A+

Joyce is a name you may not be familiar with, but one who could begin to get more notoriety over the coming months. I am all in on this right-handed arm who is showing swing and miss plus a high ground ball rate, a strong recipe for success.

With a fastball that sits 92-95, thrown from a flat attack angle that leads to a lot of run, Joyce bores the fastball in on righties and runs it away from lefties. His changeup has nice fading action but plays fairly similar to his two-seam fastball, and he also mixes in a low-80s slider with nice sweeping action.

Joyce has been dominant and should be on his way to Double-A soon, as he has a 1.60 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 39 innings this year. In July, Joyce is stepping up his game with 34 strikeouts and seven walks, with two of those starts reaching ten strikeouts.
