Complex Level and Dominican Summer League Players to Know for Dynasty(Pt. 2)
Chris Clegg provides 20 more names to know in dynasty leagues heading into rookie ball.
We are officially less than a week away from more Minor League Baseball action. On Monday, June 5, Rookie ball kicks off. That means we will have Dominican Summer League, plus the Florida & Arizona Complex League. That means more prospects! What could be better?
On Monday, I published the first part of this article. I covered 20 names that you need to know for players participating in the Arizona or Florida Complex Leagues, plus the Dominican Summer League.
Interestingly enough, after I published this, Ethan Salas and Josue De Paula were both called up to Single-a full season ball.
Dynasty Strategy with Complex and DSL Players
With the start of new leagues, there will be plenty of hype around names that start their seasons hot. If it is a pop-up name, it will be exciting and worth picking up that player, depending on how deep of a league it is. But, if someone who performed well at the DSL last summer is playing well at the complex, their stock will soar. I suggest having several prospect spots on your dynasty roster to feel comfortable churning.
If you have those spots, use them graciously. Don’t be afraid to pick someone up because of the what-ifs? If you don’t pick up hot players over the first couple of weeks you will miss out on the Emmanuel Rodriguez and Junior Caminero types.
If the roster spot is a churning spot anyways, if the young prospects don’t work out just drop them for a new hot name. That is how you should be treating your prospect spots anyways in dynasty. Churn and burn and know when to hold.
Luis Guanipa, OF, ATL, 17
Luis Guanipia is a power/speed threat and is a great athlete. He moves well in centerfield and on the basepaths, flashing 70-grade run times. He is smaller at 5’11, but he packs a punch and could continue to add strength and power thanks to quick hands and bat speed. Don’t be surprised when Guanipia develops into one of the better players in the 2023 international class.
Derniche Valdez, SS, CHC, 17
Derniche Valdez has some of the quickest hands of the 2023 international class and can hit velocity. He can be a free swinger at times, but does make good contact on pitches in the zone. He has a projectable frame that could add power to an already strong bat profile.
Ricardo Cabrera, SS, CIN, 18
Ricardo Cabrera signed in 2022 and was said to have one of the strongest hit tools in the class. Cabrera slightly underperformed in the DSL, hitting just .253/.363/.380 with one home run and five stolen bases. He has a lot to prove this season but has the tools to be a well-rounded player.
Alfredo Duno, C, CIN, 17
Alfredo Duno is already a physical beast to be 17 years old. He is listed as 6’3/220 and has the physicality you look for in a catcher. He has a strong arm, but from the hitting side has massive raw power. Catcher is a tough position, but Duno will be one to watch as there is a chance for a special power bat at the position.
Dyan Jorge, SS, COL, 20
Dyan Jorge feels like he has been around forever, but Jorge just turned 20 in March and has just one summer in the DSL. Last season he showed a strong feel to hit, slashing .319/.404/.450 with four home runs and 13 stolen bases. Jorge will need to lift the ball more and if he does, watch out. What was thought to be a glove-first profile might have some intriguing dynasty upside with power and speed.
