Colorado Rockies Top Prospects for 2027

1. Charlie Condon, 1B/OF, 24, 6’5”/216, AAA

Charlie Condon is on the doorstep of the major leagues, and there is a lot to be excited about. He is in a group of guys in this system who all have their own claim to be the top prospect in this system, but Condon beats them out because of proximity to the majors. This past season he spent all of his time in Triple-A, where he had a solid season, posting a triple-slash of .273/.390/.514 with 27 homers, which amounted to a 118 wRC+, but it is the Pacific Coast League, so you know.

Condon is looking like a nice first-base/corner outfield profile. There is plenty of power here: he posted a 90th percentile EV around 105, he posted a 43% hard-hit rate on the season, and there is some feel to lift and pull batted balls. The problem is he does get passive in-zone. A 61% in-zone swing rate paired with a 40% swing rate is a bit on the passive side, and that does artificially inflate zone contact, which is alarming when it’s only an 81% z-con rate. His issues are he watches too many pitches, and that doesn’t allow him to tap into his power as much as one would want.

It’s an awkward timing mechanism; he will almost do a double-tap, but luckily the hands are quick through the zone, and he has plenty of loft in his swing. There are some concerns with breaking balls, which, given he will play half his games at Coors, becomes less of a problem. He is looking to hunt fastballs and can do damage with fastballs all over the zone. 

I do have some slight concerns about the shape of the production on the road, but he can be an empty power bat away from Coors, and he can really be helped by Coors in terms of average and power. The overall end-of-season stats should be around the top 10 1B in fantasy, with some high highs like when he is in Coors for an extended amount of time, and some low valleys when he is away from the friendly confines of Coors.
