Cleveland Guardians Top Prospects for 2026

1. Angel Genao, SS, 22, 5’11”/150, AAA (Prev Rank: 4)

2026 Update

Genao has tied his career-high in home runs with 10 in just 344 plate appearances and has put together an impressive .297/.398/.472 slash. The power has ticked up as Genao has a 104.5 mph 90th percentile exit velocity with a 111 mph max. The chase rate is a solid 24 percent with a 91 percent in-zone contact rate.

Genao got a late start to the 2025 season after a shoulder injury kept him out for most of the first two months of the season. He returned strong at the complex, hitting three home runs in 32 plate appearances, but did not look like the same hitter once he moved back to Double-A. For the season, Genao hit five home runs and stole six bases while slashing .263/.332/.382.

Genao enjoyed a major breakout season in 2024, posting a .330/.379/.499 with ten home runs and 52 extra-base hits. He stole 25 bases on 30 attempts, and strong underlying data supported his performance.

A strong contact hitter, Genao has made contact in 83 percent of pitches he has seen while aggressively jumping on pitches in the zone. His aggressive approach carries over to pitches out of the zone as well, but his upper-20 percent chase rate has not hurt him yet, thanks to his strong contact profile.

The bat speed is good, and Genao shows a good feel to hit from both sides of the plate. While many are down on him based on the results, I would chalk them up to the shoulder surgery. The speed to steal bases is there, and the power should return in 2026 with a fully healthy shoulder. The hit tool is impressive, and the culmination of skills makes Genao a great buy low.
