Chicago Cubs Top Prospects for 2026
1. Josiah Hartshorn, 1B/OF, 19, 6’0”/220, A+ (Prev Rank: 12)
2026 Update
Hartshorn entered the Cubs’ 2025 draft class as one of the more intriguing offensive talents outside of the top rounds. While he was selected in the sixth round, Hartshorn got a $2 million bonus to pry him away from a Texas A&M commitment. At 6’2”, 220 lbs, he’s already physically mature for a prep bat, and scouts rave about the power potential in the profile.
Taking the league by storm, Hartshorn has hit 15 home runs so far in 355 plate appearances while slashing .276/.397/.503. He has walked 15 percent and struck out just 19.7 percent of the time.
Under the hood, there is impressive data as well. Having a 105 mph 90th percentile exit velocity, Hartshorn has been up to 112 mph off the bat. His chase rate is sitting around 20 percent with an impressive 87 percent in-zone contact rate.
Hartshorn has developed into one of the better hitting prospects in baseball. At this point, he looks like a top 25 overall prospect.
