Chicago Cubs Top Prospects for 2026

1. Jaxon Wiggins, RHP, 24, 6’6”/225, AAA

Wiggins built on a strong end to his 2024 season and was quite impressive in 2025, tossing 78 innings with a 2.19 ERA, 31 percent strikeout rate, and 11.5 percent walk rate while holding hitters to a .160 average and a 1.03 WHIP. The line already stands out, but the underlying bat-missing ability is what really jumps off the page, with his swinging strike rate sitting north of 18 percent.

The fastball is the foundation. Wiggins worked consistently in the upper 90s this season, often sitting 97–98 mph and touching 101. From his 6’6” frame, he creates downhill plane while still generating around 17 inches of IVB with ten inches of horizontal movement. It’s a tough combination for hitters to handle, and when he’s locating it in the zone, it becomes a true bat-missing weapon as it plays up with 6’8” of extension.

The slider sits in the upper 80s; it devastates hitters and easily plays as a plus pitch, generating ugly swings both in and out of the zone. He also mixes in a low-80s curveball, giving him a solid offering with two-plane movement.

The changeup has made meaningful progress this year. It now sits in the upper 80s with late depth and fade, and Wiggins has shown the ability to punch out lefties with it. It averaged 13 inches of fade to it.

Command has come and gone, but Wiggins will need to show that he can keep the walk rate close to ten percent. If he can, the upside is that there is a high ceiling as a starting pitcher.
