Chicago Cubs Top Prospects for 2027

1. Josiah Hartshorn, 1B/OF, 20, 6’0”/220, AA

Hartshorn entered the Cubs’ 2025 draft class as one of the more intriguing offensive talents outside of the top rounds. While he was selected in the sixth round, Hartshorn got a $2 million bonus to pry him away from a Texas A&M commitment. At 6’2”, 220 lbs, he’s already physically mature for a prep bat, and scouts rave about the power potential in his profile.

Taking the league by storm, Hartshorn reached Double-A by season’s end, hitting 23 home runs and adding 26 doubles and five triples. He swiped 17 bases and drove in 112 runs in 562 plate apperances. The slash sat at an impressive .284/.407/.518.

Under the hood, there is impressive data as well. Having a 105 mph 90th percentile exit velocity, Hartshorn has been up to 112 mph off the bat. His chase rate is sitting around 18 percent with an impressive 87 percent in-zone contact rate.

Hartshorn has developed into one of the better hitting prospects in baseball and the skillset is well-rounded. While its possible he does move to first base long-term, the bat is going to play.
