Boston Red Sox Top Prospects for 2026
1. Franklin Arias, SS, 20, 5’11”/170, AA (Prev Rank: 3)
2026 Update
Arias is up to 18 home runs this season and is slashing an impressive .325/.411/.569. He has walked nearly as often as he has struck out. The exit velocity data has risen a tick as he has a 104 mph 90th percentile exit velocity. The contact rate sits at 81 percent, with the in-zone mark at 88 percent. The chase rate has risen to around 29 percent.
It was a tale of two halves for Arias, who started out the year as hot as any prospect and vaulted into the top 10 overall of major outlets’ rankings. Through June 8, Arias was slashing .351/.397/.474 with three home runs, nine stolen bases, and 19 extra-base hits. After hitting his fourth home run on June 17, Arias struggled after that. He has just 16 extra base hits over his final 268 plate appearances and slashed .227/.291/.326.
For the season, Arias slashed .278/.335/.388 with eight home runs and 12 stolen bases, but was caught nine times. Yes, the ten percent strikeout rate was elite, and Arias backed it with an 89 percent contact rate that jumped into the mid-90s for in-zone contact. Arias only chased at a 25 percent clip, which is good, but his swing decisions often led to making too much contact on pitches that he could not drive.
His 103 mph 90th percentile exit velocity was a tick up from 2024, but the problem came in regards to creating barrels as he put 48 percent of batted balls on the ground. Arias also struggles to turn around a fastball and get to the pull side at times. It is not necessarily a bad thing to use the whole field, but with a profile like Arias’s, he needs to get the ball in the air and to the pull-side if he wants to get to homers.
After Arias stole 35 bases in 2024, people deemed him a plus runner, which isn’t true. Arias is presently a below-average runner based on clock times, and his base running instincts seemed to take a step back in 2025 as he was successful on just 57 percent of attempts.
All this to say, Arias is a great prospect and could be the next top prospect in the Red Sox system with some slight improvements. He is still young and a great player, but he lacks the upside of a player I want to invest in for fantasy purposes, though.
