Boston Red Sox Top Prospects for 2027

1. Franklin Arias, SS, 21, 5’11”/170, AAA

Despite spending the entire season as a 20-year-old, Arias worked his way to Triple-A, and it seemed possible he would make his debut in September. Entering the 2026 season with a career high of nine home runs, Arias smashed by it, hitting 25 this season while slashing an impressive .323/.400/.557.

While Arias did not see a huge tick up in his exit velocity data, Arias did see the number rise north of 103 mph. The ability to pull the ball in the air did improve, especially in Double-A. The contact rate sat around 85 percent overall, with the in-zone mark at 90 percent. The chase rate was a little higher than in previous seasons and rose to around 29 percent.

Arias has risen near the top of many lists; he lacks the traits you want to see out of a superstar prospect. Arias has an extremely high floor and even made improvements in exit velocities and launch angles. The ground ball rate dropped from 48 percent in 2025 down to 41 percent in 2026. He also improved his ability to pull the ball.

After Arias stole 35 bases in 2024, he has stolen just 12 and 9 in the previous two seasons. He clocks as an average runner at best and clocks many 40-grade run times in person. He projects to have 5-7 stolen bases regularly at the MLB level.

Arias is a plus glove at shortstop with smooth actions. Given the plus hit tool and plus glove, Arias is a sure-fire Major Leaguer. Expect him to debut in May or June of 2027.
