Arizona Fall League Recap: 10/11/2026
Chris breaks down everything you need to know from Sat's Arizona Fall League action.
The Arizona Fall League is back! My favorite time and trip of the year is here, and this year we will be bringing you early live coverage of the AFL. We are entering week two of action in the desert, but Sunday brought us just one game.
Let’s dive right in! The top performances from Sunday, October 11th.
Exit Velocity Leaders
Player | Exit Velocity |
|---|---|
Welbyn Francisca (CLE) | 107.9 |
Max Williams (MIA) | 106.9 |
Dillon Lewis (MIA) | 103.4 |
Welbyn Francisca (CLE) | 103 |
Welbyn Francisca (CLE) | 102.9 |
Whiff Leaders
Player | Whiffs |
|---|---|
Alejandro Chiquillo (TEX) | 9 |
Luke Fox (LAD) | 5 |
Tanner Bauman (NYY) | 5 |
Owen Hackman (ATL) | 4 |
Andrew Walling (PHI) | 4 |
Glendale Desert Dogs (Chris)
Dillon Lewis, OF, Miami Marlins (3/5 HR, 2 K)
Lewis put together an impressive performance on Sunday, blasting a home run and adding two singles. The home run left the bat at 103.4 mph, and one of the singles came in at 102.8 mph. Lewis is no strangers to big time EVs though as he has already hit a ball 114 mph in Arizona.
Lewis blasted 22 home runs with the Yankees in 2025 before being traded to the Marlins. In 368 2026 Double-A plate appearances, he hit 18 home runs and stole 20 bases while slashing .242/.302/.460. The power is big time, but Lewis struck out in 30 percent of his plate appearances.
The whiffs showed up despite the performance last night as Lewis whiffed at a 56 percent clip and struck out twice.
Chase Harlan, CI, Los Angeles Dodgers (1/3 HR, 2 BB)
Harlan reached base three times on Sunday, and his home run was a 101 mph shot to dead center. While Harlan is hitting just .200 in the early going of the fall league, he is getting on base and hitting the ball hard, something we have seen consistently out of him.
During his 396 plate appearances between Single-A and High-A, Harlan hit 14 home runs and slashed .298/.403/.509, though the production did drop off in High-A. Harlan makes average contact and does a good job of hitting the ball to all fields well. His gains in 2026 were legit, and he is a top 100 prospect.
Luke Fox, RHP, Los Angeles Dodgers (1.2 IP/1 H/0 ER/2 BB/2 K)
Fox has been a prospect I have kept my eye on, and it seemed like he was breaking out in 2026 before an injury kept him out from April until August. He pitched just 28 innings, but posted a 3.18 ERA. Fox struck out over 32 percent of batters he faced with a nine percent walk rate.
He generated five whiffs in his start on Sunday, but landed just 55 percent of his pitches for strikes. The fastball worked 93-94 with 13 inches of IVB and ten inches of arm-side movement. The slider devastated hitters, sitting 82 mph with good depth and 12 inches of sweep.
Fox does a good job of moving east-west, but his 90 mph cutter has good potential; the 88 mph changeup gets 16 inches of fade on average. Fox is an arm that is worth keeping an eye on the rest of the fall.
Surprise Saguaros (Chris)
Welbyn Francisca, SS, Cleveland Guardians (3/5 2 2B, 3 RBI)
As a team, Surprise collected just five hits on the day, and Francisca was about the only thing going for the offense. He had three hits, including two doubles and a single, and drove in three runs.
Francisca had three batted balls north of 103 mph, including a 108 mph shot that wound up being a ground out. The underlying power metrics have taken a notable leap forward this year as his 90th percentile exit velocity increased close to 104 mph, and the contact rates are respectable. While the contact has trended in the wrong direction compared to previous seasons, the power trade-off has been worth it.
Francisca has done a good job of pulling the ball in the air and has shown good aggression on pitches in the zone and over the heart of the plate. The chase rate is a bit high at 30 percent, but it works with the profile overall.
Cole Mathis, 1B, New York Mets (1/4 HR)
Mathis got off to a strong start to the 2026 season but was slowed down by an injury and trade. The Cubs moved Mathis to New York as part of the David Peterson deal.
Mathis struggled in his 50 plate apperances when he returned to action in the Mets org, and the same can be said for his time in Arizona so far.
He did blast a home run and nearly left the yard a second time on Sunday, so hopefully it is a catalyst for better performance moving forward. All four of Mathis’s batted balls on Sunday were hit 99 mph or harder.
