Arizona Diamondbacks Top Prospects for 2026

1. Ryan Waldschmidt, OF, 23, 6’2”/205, AA

Ryan Waldschmidt was a data darling coming out of the University of Kentucky. And in his first full year of pro ball, he went the more conventional route, as opposed to a lot of the other college hitters in the 2024 draft class that were slingshot through the minors. If all goes according to plan, we could see Ryan Waldschmidt in the majors at some point in 2026.

In his first full season of professional baseball, the former University of Kentucky standout hit .289/.419/.473 with 18 homers and 29 stolen bases across both High-A and Double-A. There are some questions about overall passivity in his profile, as across both levels, his swing rate was below 40%, and this may have artificially raised his walk rates as a pitcher at the High-A and Double-A levels.

But when he does swing, there is clear power here, with a 90th percentile exit velocity of 105. With some feel for lifting and pulling batted balls, he has the chance to become a perennial 25-homer threat. There is some speed here as well, and during his peak seasons, the D-backs farmhand has a good chance to be a 20/20 threat.

The Diamondbacks now have a hole in left field after trading away Jake McCarthy, which may have been opened up for Ryan Waldschmidt. If that is the case, now is the time to buy Ryan Waldschmidt, as he could provide immediate returns.
