Happy Wednesday, everyone. I have published a digest every day this year and don’t plan for that to stop. Things happen and change fast in baseball and life, and last night was one of those examples.
Having a 39-week pregnant wife, I have been pretty cautious about too much travel outside of our area for games in the last week or two. Greenville was back home this week, and things seemed okay with the baby situation, so I decided to head up I-85 to catch the first game of the Greenville-Rome series.
Upon arrival, I got a call from my wife, who thought labor was starting. So, back in the car, I head back home. Everything seemed fine and we thought it could happen over the next 24 hours or so, but we called my parents to pick up our three-year-old son just in case. We thought our daughter might be arriving soon but did not realize how soon.
Things happened very quickly. About 15 minutes after Hayden was picked up by my parents, we knew it was time to get in the car for the birth of our daughter. But she wasn’t waiting. By the time we made it to the bottom of the stairs, delivery had started.
If you know me, you know I hate anything medical-related, especially blood. But I had to deliver my daughter at the bottom of these steps. In the moment, things just become instinctual, kind of like fielding a hard-hit ground ball, except, I had never been this situation before. I was on the phone with 911 and a midwife, trying to follow what they were saying, but honestly, I don’t remember a word. It is just one of those moments in life that happens so fast that you don’t know what to do other than react.
I still don’t know how I did it, but we had the baby right here in our house just the two of us. I keep playing it back in my head over and over again. In all honesty, what happened last night still terrifies me.
But as of 9:47 PM EST last night, we have a beautiful baby girl and are a family of four. My wife and daughter are both doing well, probably much better than they should be, given the circumstances of how everything happened. But i’m just really thankful. Despite the crazy circumstances, we are doing well and I can’t ask for much more than that.
I plan to be back tomorrow with actual breakdowns and, hopefully, some rankings updates on the prospect side. Be sure to check out Beck’s Threecap when it drops for coverage of yesterday’s MiLB action.
Thanks for the continued support of the Dynasty Dugout and allowing me to do what I love everyday!
