2025 MLB Draft Underrated Pitchers for FYPD

Learn about five underrated pitchers from the 2025 MLB Draft class that could pop in their new pro organizations given strong pitch data and traits.

Pitchers can be a little tougher to evaluate from college as far as what it might look like in pro ball. We typically see players change pitch-mix, grips, etc, while also making big jumps in some cases. Just take Payton Tolle from last year, who added four ticks on his fastball and went from a curveball to two slider variations.

In this article, I dive into some college pitchers with strong pitch data who could really thrive with good fits in different pro organizations.

Let’s dive in on who you need to know for your dynasty baseball FYPD.

2025 MLB Draft Pitchers with Impressive Data

Cam Tilly, RHP, New York Mets, 6’2”/207 (Auburn, 7th Round)

A draft-eligible sophomore at Auburn, Tilly pitched out of the bullpen during his freshman season and to begin the 2025 season. Moving to a starter role in late April, Tilly progressively got better as he got more comfortable in the role. In his last two SEC starts against Ole Miss and Texas A&M, Tilly struck out 11 batters and walked just two.

Sure, you look on the surface and see a 5.48 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP and might be deterred. The 14 percent walk rate is also a big issue, which starts with the 55 percent strike rate on his four-seam fastball. The secondaries do have better strike rates, but the overall mark still sat shy of 60 percent this year. So why am I featuring Tilly in the article? Two reasons: Mets’ pitching lab and the stuff Tilly brings to the table.

The Mets’ track record of developing pitching in the minors has been exceptional, and we have seen quite a few college arms improve their control and walk rates over the last few years. Tilly’s stuff is already there and sets him up nicely for success in the Cohen Pitch Lab.

Starting with the fastball, Tilly sat north of 93 mph this year and topped near 97 mph. Using the pitch 37 percent of the time, Tilly generated 19 inches of IVB from a six-foot release height with eight inches of horizontal movement. He spins the pitch exceptionally well and generated a 27 percent whiff rate.

From a secondary standpoint, Tilly has five pitches, but the slider and splitter were used 33 and 23 percent of the time. The slider works in the low-80s, but reaches 86 mph with spin rates north of 2800 rpm. Having good depth, Tilly averaged over 15 inches of sweeping action and had a whiff rate north of 37 percent.

The splitter was an exceptional offering, generating a 60 percent swing rate and a 41 percent chase rate. Having a 38 percent whiff rate, the pitch sat in the mid-80s with low spin and a late, parachuting action.

Tilly will mix in a mid-to-upper 70s curveball with strong two-plane movement. He could be a candidate to add a cutter or even a two-seam fastball, which is something we have seen the Mets do with their collegiate arms. All this to say, Tilly could thrive with the Mets’ player development.
